dr. Omar el sharkawy
Dr Omar El Sharkawy has over ten years of experience as a plastic and reconstructive surgeon. He received his Medical Doctorate in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in 2015 from Cairo University, Kasr Al Ainy School of Medicine where he is currently serving as a staff member.
Through his work at one of Cairo's most prominent hospitals Dr Omar has amassed extensive experience in facial aesthetic surgery, body contouring, breast surgery, and reconstructive surgery. He has special interest in microsurgery, utilizing his specialized experience in breast reconstruction and hand surgery.
His surgical philosophy is Natural is Beautiful. This is practiced by striving to make the looks of the body as natural as possible. Whether that means a rhinoplasty to smoothen a dorsal hump of the nose, a tummy tuck to remove excess skin of the abdomen after delivery or a major reconstructive procedure as a free TRAM to reconstruct a breast after mastectomy using the body's own tissues for the most natural result.
The combination of this philosophy with latest techniques, surgical precision, passion and meticulousness has granted him distinctiveness and prominence within the field.
Dr Omar studied medicine at the Kasr Al Ainy school of medicine, graduating at the top of his class. He then completed his plastic surgery residency program where he held the position of Chief resident of general surgery. During that time, he completed his Masters degree. After the residency Dr Omar was appointed as an assistant lecturer of plastic surgery, a post he held for three years as he studied and prepared his thesis for completion of his Phd degree which was successfully completed in December 2015. He now holds the post of Lecturer of plastic surgery at Cairo University.
While completing his post graduate studies Dr Omar spent several months in the United States of America, where he completed his USMLE studies and ECFMG certification. He also sought international exposure and gained experience from world renowned surgeons at University of Irvine where he completed an Observership and received intensive training on breast and body contouring surgery at Newport Clinic of Plastic surgery.
Being a lecturer of plastic surgery involves teaching as well as providing medical attention to patients. Dr Omar enjoys teaching undergraduate students in the weekly lectures as well as passing on his experience to the plastic surgery residents during the in-patient rounds, outpatient clinics and during surgeries. He also teaches as an instructor at the Kasr Al Ainy course for microsurgery.
